US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to declassify government documents related to alien life and unidentified flying objects, beginning the process of identifying and releasing materials related to unidentified aerial phenomena.

This is reported by The Washington Post .

“I will instruct the Secretary of War and other appropriate departments and agencies to begin the process of identifying and releasing government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UFOs) and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), as well as any other information related to these extremely complex, but extremely interesting and important issues,” Trump said.

The statement came amid public interest in the topic of extraterrestrial civilizations. Journalists had previously reported on the growing attention to government programs studying unusual phenomena.

In recent years, U.S. officials have released videos of unidentified flying objects that observers say do not follow the known laws of physics, prompting lawmakers to demand more information and launch investigations into possible data cover-ups.

According to a YouGov poll conducted in November, 56 percent of Americans believe in the existence of aliens.

The declassification decision was accompanied by political controversy. Donald Trump criticized former President Barack Obama for his public statements on the topic of extraterrestrial life.

In one of the podcasts, Barack Obama stated that aliens “are real, but I haven’t seen them,” adding that he had no evidence of contact with them. Later on Instagram, he clarified: “Statistically, the universe is so vast that there is a high probability that life exists. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the probability that we have been visited by aliens is low, and I have not seen any evidence that aliens have contacted us.”

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Donald Trump called his predecessor’s words a “big mistake” and said he did not know whether these phenomena were real, but believed that the rules for handling information should be followed.

President Bill Clinton has also previously publicly admitted the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence, while stressing the lack of evidence. He said federal officials had inspected the Area 51 military base in Nevada but found nothing unusual.

Separately, it is noted that Donald Trump was previously under investigation for handling classified documents that were found at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida after his term ended.

Recall that NASA space agency director Bill Nelson admitted the possibility of the existence of aliens .
