“They’re real, but I haven’t seen them,” Barack Obama said.
“And they’re not being kept in… what is it? Area 51,” he added, referring to the conspiracy theories surrounding the top-secret U.S. Air Force base in Nevada.

The internet quickly ran with his answer, with some speculating whether Barack Obama had seen evidence of alien life during his presidency.
However, he later took to Instagram to set the record straight: “I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention let me clarify,” he said.
“Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there,” he explained.
“But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!” he claimed.

This isn’t the first time Barack Obama has openly commented on the possibility of life beyond Earth.
During a 2021 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, he joked that one of his first presidential inquiries in 2009 was about aliens.
“The truth is, that when I came into office, I asked, ‘Is there the lab somewhere where we’re keeping the alien specimens and spaceship?’” he said.
