FOND DU LAC, WIS. – Men’s Volleyball opened up the Sabre Classic Friday afternoon. They took on the Olivet Comets in a nonconference tilt. The Eagles (2-4) overcame a rough first set to ground the Comets (1-5) 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18).
HOW IT HAPPENED
– While Edgewood University would push ahead 18-16 off the back of a 5-1 run, mistakes would prove to be costly as Olivet earned the first set on a 9-2 burst. The Eagles hit -.037 in the opening frame.

– A 3-0 start to the second set had the Eagles on the right footing. Ahead 15-12, Edgewood University rolled through on a 10-3 explosion as the Comets struggled for answers against the high-flying Eagles.

– Olivet hung around early, but an 8-3 rally from Edgewood University had them soaring up 20-13. The Eagles polished off the set on a 5-2 stretch featuring smothering defense as they held the Comets to a -.063 hitting percentage in the third frame.

– A 7-2 sprint early in the fourth had Edgewood University rolling once more up 10-4. A 6-1 rally from Olivet cut the edge down to 15-14. The Eagles closed out the set and match strong on a 10-4 run featuring six kills and an ace.

– Edgewood University outhit the Comets .188-to-.000. They had a 40-to-23 advantage in kills and hit eight aces.

– Cade Schueller paved the way for the Eagles with 10 kills. He swung .350 on 20 attempts.

– Ethan Hoffert anchored the strong showing on offense with 30 assists and three aces.

– Carsyn Stringfellow swung for seven kills and recorded seven digs. Tanner Sindorf also had seven digs.

– Silas Martin earned 11 kills to lead all hitters for the match.
