HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — NASA is opening the gate for lease proposals on excess land near Johnson Space Center, and it wants commercial space neighbors.

In the announcement for proposals NASA posted on federal contracting website SAM.gov, the agency also included a map of 183.7 acres in the site known as Exploration Park.

The map is divided into 10-acre parcels, though there are a few smaller options as well as a 13-acre parcel labeled “Option Arrow” without further elaboration. The site is accessible by Saturn Lane.

Proposals are due by April 30, and NASA is hosting site visits on Feb. 18, per the AFP document.

Johnson Space Center leadership, especially Director Vanessa Wyche, have been working on plans to make excess land near the center accessible to commercial space companies.

In a Jan. 20 interview, Wyche told the Houston Business Journal that NASA will see what comes in terms of proposals after the AFP opens.
