HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – NASA took a moment on Thursday to remember the astronauts who lost their lives in the pursuit of exploration.
The agency’s Annual Day of Remembrance commemorates the loss of the Apollo One crew and the space shuttles Challenger and Columbia.
These tragedies occurred near the end of January and in Columbia’s case, on February 1.
The shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds post lift-off 40 years ago.
Observances are being held across the country, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery and similar gatherings at NASA centers nationwide, including in Huntsville, at the Marshall Space Flight Center.
