I bet they can’t open it because the screws were provided by Apple and they didn’t buy the special proprietary screwdriver required to remove them.

If Reddit has taught me anything it’s the following trick: cool the part you want to shrink and heat up the part that needs to expand. This is guaranteed to loosen anything.
