January’s full moon, known as the “Wolf Moon,” will be visible through Saturday as the first full moon of 2026.

The moon will be the closest that it gets to the Earth during its orbit, thus making it a supermoon as well, according to NASA. It will be one of three supermoons in 2026.

The moon will reach peak illumination at 4:03 a.m. CST, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac website.

It is known as the Wolf Moon in reference to wolves, who have been known to howl during winter nights, according to Space.com.

The Quadrantid meteor shower will also peak on Saturday, according to the American Meteor Society website.

The shower will be active until Jan. 12, and though the meteors do not have persistent trains, they often produce bright fireballs, the society’s website said.
