2026 is kicking off strong for Alienfans. Alien: Romulus, the 2024 smash hit that gave the franchise a much-needed jolt of energy, is heading to Prime Video on January 1. After years of mixed reactions to the series’ direction, Romulus arrived as a soft reboot that clearly knew what it wanted to be. It stripped away the philosophical, lore-heavy themes of Prometheusand Alien: Covenantand took the franchise back to its claustrophobic, practical-effects-driven horror roots. The result was a movie that felt closer to the original Alien, and that’s small-scale, mean, and genuinely scary in a way the series had not been for a long time.
The movie works as an interquel and sits neatly between Alien and Aliens.
