  1. the article just describes how agencies are observing this asteroid to predict its path and how other agencies have ways to detect and see near earth asteroids. also the guy mentioned in this article, Avi Loeb, constantly makes unfounded claims so dont trust much of what he says. overall this is just a classic click bait title

    I suppose this could be a legitimate excuse to carry out a Space defence drill for a specific planetary body. “Drill” be the keyword here.

    No. We’re developing how to do all this. None of it is established or routine enough to be called normal.

  4. IAWN is coordinating [an exercise](https://iawn.net/obscamp/3I_ATLAS/) in measuring comet positions, which is challenging because they are fuzzy and asymmetric. 3I/ATLAS just happened to go by at a convenient time for that. No one is launching any spacecraft toward it.

    Spinning and stretching the facts is normal procedure for the NY Post.

  5. Yes, sort of. They are using 3i/atlas as a target to see if and how we can track asteroids that may be heading to earth. Space agencies are using 3i as a target dummies of sorts. That’s all…Â
