Looks like the film is set in a virtual world, where people may not realise they are in a virtual world. Note 7 billion people comment and watching video on an old style phone. Costumes also put it around early 2000s. Skip to a very high tech office in a supposed near future location.
I get the feeling this isn’t about aliens at all.
