Everybody has their own theories regarding these enigmatic little ice age figurines. I guess I’m no different! So here’s mine – I think the contours of each Venus figurines appear to correlate with the rivers closest to where they were found. I have a few more sheets of these and it’s also the cave art too, but that’s going to keep me busy.
Is it mere paradoilia? My only manipulation is to orientate and scale them to an appropriate fit, so there is is always going to be a certain amount of ambiguity to it.

However, personally I feel too many of them match up too well to simply be coincidence, especially as almost all the figurines were found in very similar locations to each other.(by rivers, in shallow shelters or seasonal open air camps) If they do turn out to be rivers , it would certainly explain their highly individual, often contorted shapes , and why some of them such as the Gonnersdorf Venuses barely resemble women at all.
This has been a lot of fun anyway. If anybody would like a go, I haven’t done the Buret Venus set. I’ll post the statues and coordinates. Also I got 3 toddlers so my time replying might be sporadic.

  1. Rivers are constantly changing their course. There is zero percent chance that the rivers had these shapes at the time the art work was created

  2. I thought I could post more pictures, sorry j don’t seem to be able to. I don’t Reddit much.Â
