UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica University Nexus Center is collaborating with the NHL for the “Learn to Play” program.
Every Monday and Wednesday, youth hockey players gather at the Nexus Center.
Rob Esche, owner of the Utica Comets, along with Comets staff and players, join the sessions to share their hockey expertise with the younger generation.
Adam Pawlick, vice president of the Utica Comets, said, “It’s so much fun. No matter if you had a tough day, a long day, a hard day, coming out here and watching these kids smile and fall and enjoy playing the game, it means so much to me and all the other coaches that help out. Most of us have kids out here, a couple just volunteer their time just because they love to give back.”
The NHL has reported a 35% increase in youth hockey participation over the last decade since the program began.
Registration for the next session, starting on Jan. 5, is currently open.
