Dolomites. Been there a few times, but this was my first time doing astro. All I can say is: I can’t wait to go back.

But before, during, and after that night, a lot went wrong. A dirty sensor on my H-alpha modified Nikon Z6, and then both the laser pointer for the star tracker and my remote triggers decided to stay behind in a nice warm room at the Airbnb. That meant I was limited to 30-second exposures instead of the planned 2-minute ones. But even with all that, I somehow managed to capture one of my first winter Milky Way panoramas in the Dolomites.

    Gear and EXIF:
    – Camera: Stock Nikon Z6 – Lens: Viltrox 16mm F1.8 Z
    – Move Shoot Move Nomad star tracker
    – Kenko Softon A filter for star glow effect
    – Astronomik 12nm Ha clip in filter for Nikon Z

    – Astromodified Nikon Z6

    Landscape:
    9 images panorama
    single image settings: ISO 1600, 16mm, F1.8, 30sec

    Sky RGB:
    9 images panorama
    single image settings: ISO 1600, 16mm, F1.8, 30sec

Sky Ha (because I had to shoot with a stock Nikon Z6, I used old Ha data for this image, which was taken with Ha mod Nikon Z6, Viltrox 16mm and Astronomik 12nm Ha filter):

    3 images panorama
    single image settings: ISO 5000, 16mm, F1.8, 125sec
    3 images stacked per panel
