In fall 1954 two sisters Åsta and Edith were out picking blueberries in Mosjøen (Helgeland) when they encountered a man and his UFO. This is their story:

We then saw something moving in the bushes, and I remember saying, "That must be a sheep." But instead a man appeared, Edith tells the newspaper. The man is described very accurately and in detail.

"He had an open and trustworthy smile. He was dark and had long hair. It was almost a bob cut, like what was in fashion around 1946."

"He had nice teeth, and I think he was about 5'10" tall."

“He was dressed in a kind of tight-fitting suit. I couldn’t see any buttons or zippers, but it had a kind of a wide belt.”

“He came towards us and smiled, while he held out his hand.”

“I smiled back and held out my hand too, because I thought he wanted to greet me the way people usually do.”

“But instead of shaking hands, he gently brushed the inside of his hand against the inside of mine and then pulled it back to him.”

Edith claims to be a linguist herself. She tells the newspaper that she knows German, English, Spanish, French and Russian. However, according to the women, the man they meet speaks a language that is unlike anything they have heard before. “It was very melodic, and it was just like it didn’t consist of separate words, but flowed in a steady stream,” says Edith. When they didn't understand each other, the man pulls out some kind of record. He draws a circle and points to himself, and another circle and points to the two sisters. Then he signals for the ladies to follow him.

A little further into the forest lies what looks like two pot lids placed on top of each other. Two to three meters in diameter and about one and a half meters high.

A door opens and the man climbs in.

"The last thing we saw of him was him waving at us, smiling.

Then the object lifted 10-20 meters off the ground. It happened quite slowly and the only sound we could hear was a kind of hiss or a very faint hum, definitely not the roar of an engine."

"It was gone in an instant".

The article also mentions that there was alot of skepticicm around the reported sighting, but what is very interesting is also this:

But the strange thing is that Åsta and Edith were not the only ones who saw something suspicious in Helgeland this late summer. A few days before, taxi driver Sverre Nilsen was on a road trip with his wife and another couple. According to the newspaper Helgeland, they saw a strange, cigar-shaped object with five or six growths in the sky. The growths detached from the cigar-like part and disappeared, while the main part of the object remained hanging in the sky. And a few weeks later, a mysterious object was observed in Svalbard. – I have no doubt that we have been visited by extraterrestrial intelligences, and that we will get it in the future, says Leif Normann Solhaug.

  1. I think this story is interesting because it corresponds with many other UFO sightings and they are very detailed about the man’s appearance and the course of events. I also think it is interesting that there were several other UFO sightings in northern Norway in the same time period (a few days before also in Helgeland even though the appearance of the UFO is described very differently, and also another sighting in Svalbard a few weeks later). The sighting in Svalbard was seen by 6 people and they also reported it as a flying saucer.
