This incredible image showcases a spectacular solar prominence near the Sun’s southwest limb, captured on March 8, 2025. Prominences are massive loops of plasma, extending thousands of kilometers into space, held by the Sun’s magnetic field.
While these eruptions happen frequently, catching one this perfectly is rare. The fiery loop seen here could stretch over multiple Earths! Unfortunately, events like this don’t always align with total solar eclipses, but when they do, they make for a breathtaking sight.
Could this be a sign of increased solar activity as we approach the solar maximum?
