Trump/Musk/DOGE/NASA are firing all probationary employees, generally meaning employees hired in the last year or two (or who moved into a new role even if they’ve been employed there for many years), regardless of their performance, at NASA Ames and soon to the rest of NASA.
This is an illegal, pretextual firing of tens to hundreds of people at NASA Ames and imminently hundreds to thousands across all NASA facilities and labs. You can’t just mass fire every single probationary employee and say every single one of them had “performance issues” without any evidence at all. I sincerely hope that there is a government-wide class-action lawsuit against these illegal mass firings, but who knows how that will pan out in today’s judicial system and whether the executive branch will even follow judicial orders.
NASA is being gutted by Trump and Elon. The future of scientific space exploration is dying.
For me personally, I interviewed for a dream job at NASA last year. If they had selected me, I would be part of these NASA-wide firings for no reason despite 7+ years in government total.
