During their expedition, they encountered strange marks and a large bipedal creature, which attacked and killed two members of the group. Darrow survived but was discredited and convicted due to his claims.
Almost 30 years later, in 2004, anthropologists made a groundbreaking discovery on the same island: fossils of a species known as Homo floresiensis, or “Hobbits,” which lived until around 15,000 years ago. This discovery raised questions about the truthfulness of Darrow’s claims.
In 2013, the documentary *Cannibal in the Jungle* revisited the case, uncovering evidence that suggested Darrow might have been telling the truth. The team found new audio recordings and observed unknown primate behavior, as well as filming equipment being violently removed from the forest. These findings partially corroborated Darrow’s account, but he had already died in prison before the new evidence was revealed.
