Brian Duffield, the filmmaker behind the upcoming underwater thriller “Whalefall,” has reportedly landed a high-profile gig writing a new “Alien” movie.
A few days ago, The Hot Mic’s Jeff Sneider indicated he’d heard that Duffield has been enlisted to pen a new “Alien” film at 20th Century Studios. Now, DanielRPK (via Dread Central) has also mentioned Duffield’s involvement in what’s being dubbed a mysterious “Alien” movie.
What the movie is specifically isn’t clear. Word came the other day 20th Century Studios was having issues trying to find a director for a follow-up to “Alien: Romulus,” but it’s not clear if that’s separate from this project.
The new reports also indicate it’s unclear whether Duffield would just write the film or be enlisted to direct as well. The studio has yet to confirm any of this so treat it as pure rumor for now.
Duffield did script work on films like “Monster Problems,” “Insurgent,” “The Babysitter,” “Underwater,” and “Predator: Badlands”. As a writer-director, he got a lot of attention for Hulu’s nearly dialogue-free “No One Will Save You”.
20th Century Studios president, Steve Asbell, commented on the rumour on X saying: “Who?”. 20th Century is releasing Duffield’s “Whalefall” in September, a film about a scuba diver who gets swallowed by a sperm whale.
