Harry M. Comet, 91, of Watertown, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on June 9, 2026.
Born on August 7, 1934, in Watertown, he was the son of Harry S. Comet and Dorothy (Reynolds) Comet. He graduated from Watertown High School with the Class of 1952 and began a lifetime of dedicated military service that spanned more than four decades.
Harry joined the Naval Reserve in 1952 before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1953. During his years of active duty, he proudly served in Korea, Newfoundland, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY. He was honorably discharged in 1963. Continuing his commitment to his country, Harry later served in the United States Army Reserve from 1973 until his retirement in 1994. He also worked for a time at the New York Air Brake, Borden’s, Panorama Farms, and served as an officer of the Watertown Police Department.
On September 1, 1956, Harry married the love of his life, Donna Farmer, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. They often said that “he fell in love with the girl next door” as they were next-door neighbors. Together they built a loving family and shared many years of devotion to one another and to the community. Donna was a homemaker and childcare provider who lovingly cared for countless children throughout the years.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Grace A. Weeks of Spring Hill, Florida; his four sons, Michael H. (Mary E.) Comet of Lowville, New York, Joseph B. of Oklahoma City, OK, Gregory J. Comet of Watertown, and Jeffrey M. Comet of Watertown; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Harry is predeceased by his father and mother and his loving wife.
The family would be remiss if they did not thank Harry’s “best buddy” John Allen and his wife Bonnie, his healthcare specialist and frequently visiting friend Michael Hinman, his supportive family of Jackie Hodkinson and Jana Skinner. Additionally, the family would like to extend our appreciation of the staff that cared for Donna at Samaritan in her final days and the Watertown Police Department for their professionalism and caring demeanor.
In keeping with Harry’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial with military honors will take place in North Watertown Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Honor Flight Syracuse Inc. P.O. Box 591, Syracuse NY 13209, marked as a donation in his honor. Harry was accompanied by his son Michael on a “once in a lifetime Honor Flight” in September 2024. The family hopes that your donations would make it possible for others who have served honorably to be able to be appropriately thanked.
Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.hartandbrucefh.com
