Nexus, the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro, was the venue for this year’s Community of Metros (COMET) Western Conference, which took place at The Spark, Newcastle.

The event ran over three days and brought together 42 delegates from 17 cities with metro networks around the world. Discussions covered a range of industry topics through member briefings, roundtable sessions and presentations from Nexus representatives.

Delegates also visited Gosforth Metro Depot to view the new Stadler Metro trains and received a tour of the South Shields  Nexus Learning Centre.

COMET rotates its conferences between member locations each year. Those attending travelled from countries including Portugal, Spain, Canada, Norway, France, Brazil, Japan, India, Argentina, and Taiwan, representing metro systems in cities such as London, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo, New Delhi, and Vancouver.

“We’re honoured to have hosted this COMET conference right here in our region. It brought together Metro operators from around the world so that we could benchmark our services and share knowledge, ideas and innovations from across the global light rail industry.

“Nexus is proud members of the COMET group as the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro, which cements our place in that unique club of world cities to run an urban light rail mass transit system.”
