VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 36-year-old transient was arrested on suspicion of arson after a vegetation fire broke out Tuesday morning near the CEMEX plant in Victorville.

The fire was reported at approximately 11:30 a.m. on June 2, 2026, along D Street, about one-half mile south of Air Expressway.

Firefighters arrived to find a quarter-acre vegetation fire burning in medium to heavy fuels under light wind conditions. Within approximately 10 minutes, the fire rapidly expanded to about five acres and continued spreading through heavy fuels.

By approximately 12:37 p.m., firefighters reported the forward progress of the fire had been stopped. Fire crews remained at the scene for several hours conducting mop-up operations and extinguishing hot spots.

During the incident, firefighters requested assistance from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department after observing a possible suspect in the area.

According to Sheriff’s officials, deputies contacted a man in the area after firefighters reported a possible suspect.

“Joshua Finley, 36, transient of Victorville, was in possession of a lighter and deputies determined he started the fire,” a Sheriff’s official stated.

Finley was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center on suspicion of arson. Authorities said he remains in custody in lieu of $60,000 bail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
