SUGAR LAND, Texas. – Oklahoma City Comets manager Scott Hennessey spoke with Dodgers Beat ahead of the series finale with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Sunday morning.
Hyeseong Kim In the Lineup Sunday in AAA
Hennessey confirmed that Hyeseong Kim would be in the lineup on Sunday.
“He’s going to be in the lineup, lead off, play second base, and play him just about every day, give him a day off once every two weeks, but he’s going to bounce around: second, short, third, maybe some center and work on his swing a little bit,” Hennessey said.
“I know they want him to get regular at-bats every day. It’s hard to do that up in the big leagues with the team that we have. So get him down here, play just about every day, work on some things, and he is, he’s a worker, he’ll bring the club some energy, and it’s good to have him here.”
Dave Roberts, when speaking of the demotion for Kim, said he felt that Kim was “losing his legs” during his recent struggles at the plate. While not being able to speak directly to that comment, Hennessey did note that Kim was perhaps “getting out of his legs a little bit in his swing, because he’s got to be in the ground.” Hennessey added, “Maybe that’s what they were seeing, and I know that’s what we’re going to work on while he’s here.”
Kim started the 2026 season with Oklahoma City, seeing action in six games and hitting .346 before being called up by the Dodgers on April 5.
James Tibbs III Having a Great Week (and Season)
Hennessey delighted in the chance to speak about James Tibbs III, and it is easy to see why with the season Tibbs is having.
Tibbs hit his 16th home run on Saturday night, it was his fourth long ball in three games and his fifth this week, putting him in contention for Pacific Coast League Player of the Week. Tibbs hit two three-run home runs here on Thursday night to rack up a career-high six RBI, part of his 15 RBI this week.
“Just hits lefties, hits righties, he’s on everything right now; on heaters, on sliders, on cutters. Obviously the power is tremendous, and I will say this about Tibbs: way better athlete than probably people give him credit for,” Hennessey said.
“He’s been really good in the outfield, solid at first base, just trying to get better and be a complete player, and he is, and you’re seeing him right now really hot, but he’s done it all year.”
Hennessey added, “Obviously he’s had a good year and we’ll just keep getting him better and when they [the Dodgers] need him, if they need him, he’ll be ready.”
Tibbs enters action on Sunday hitting .317 with 50 RBI.
An Update on Chayce McDermott
When asked about right-hander Chayce McDermott who was hit on the leg by a line drive in Friday’s game, forcing him to leave the game after only three pitches, Hennessey sounded no notes of concern.
“He came in yesterday and reported good. We kept him out last night. He’ll be available today,” Hennessey said. “Lucky it didn’t get him in the kneecap, but got him off to the side.”
“He’s ready to go,” Hennessey added.
McDermott pitched a scoreless inning for the Dodgers against Anaheim on May 17, the same day he was recalled from OKC and activated. McDermott was then optioned back to Oklahoma City on May 18.
Now the challenge shifts to Arizona as another important division series begins.
