SUGAR LAND, Texas – The Oklahoma City Comets are leaving town having gone 5-1 in their road series this week after taking a 5-1 victory over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Sunday afternoon at Constellation Field.

The Comets were hitless until the top of the fourth inning when James Tibbs III led off the inning with a home run to left field, his 17th of the season. It was part of what has been an unreal week for the Dodgers prospect.

Tibbs hit a three-run home run on Tuesday night in the series opener, hit two three-run home runs on Thursday night, hit a pinch-hit home run on Friday night, added another on Saturday night, and capped things off with his sixth of the series on Sunday. Tibbs drove in 16 runs during the series.

Sugar Land manufactured a run in their half of the fourth inning to tie the game.

Hyeseong Kim, making his first start since being optioned on Friday, led off the top of the sixth inning by working a walk on nine pitches, after he walked in the third inning on ten pitches. Tommy Edman, after a night off on Saturday, then lined the second pitch of his at-bat 344 feet over the wall in right-center field for a 3-1 Comets lead.

A sacrifice fly RBI by Noah Miller pushed the Comet lead to 4-1 before the inning was over. Miller added another RBI in the top of the eighth inning with a two out single into right-center field to score Zach Ehrhard from second base.

Edman, playing in just the fourth game of his rehab assignment, said on Friday, “I’m just going through my spring training right now.” The early results look good, the long term pain tolerance in his surgically repaired ankle will be the major factor in his recovery process.

Left-hander Cole Irvin made the start on the mound for the Comets and he was terrific, allowing one run over five innings, facing the minimum in two frames and one over the minimum in two other innings. Irvin improved his record this season to 5-5.

Right-hander Nick Frasso relieved Irvin and tossed perfect frames before giving way to Jake Eder for a perfect eighth inning.

Jerming Rosario closed out the 5-1 victory with a perfect inning of his own.

Comets pitching did not allow a hit or a base runner after the sixth inning on Sunday.

The Comets outscored the Space Cowboys this week 44-11.

It was also a great week for Oklahoma City pitching which limited Sugar Land to only one run in four of the six games and 11 runs total in the six games.

Oklahoma City (33-23) will return home Sunday night with an off day Monday. The Comets, in first place in the PCL East, return to action on Tuesday night when they open a series with Round Rock.
