SEATTLE — Once in the blue moon happens Saturday night.
A ‘blue moon’ is a second full moon in the same month. We had another full moon back on May 1st.
A ‘blue moon’ is special because they only happen every two or three years.
This weekend’s lunar occurrence is a micromoon as well. What is a micromoon? It’s the opposite of a supermoon.
A micromoon happens when the moon is at its farthest point from the Earth during its orbit.
Scientists say what you see in the sky will be 6% smaller and 10% dimmer than an average full moon.
In fact, NASA says Saturday night’s micromoon will be the farthest, smallest, and dimmest Moon this year.
