A loud boom was heard across New England on Saturday around 2:06 p.m.

NASA confirmed it was a meteor exploding off the coast of Massachusetts near Cape Cod.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration marked the moment the meteor exploded using satellite imagery normally used to track lightning.

The American Meteor Society said the meteor was about 3 feet wide. That’s about as wide as an average bathtub.

NASA spokesperson Allard Beutel said the meteor was travelling at about 75,000 mph before hitting earth’s atmosphere and exploding about 40 miles above ground, said Beutel.
