The Mustangs hosted Charles City Tuesday to get the week and the season going.

Independence took on the Comets and posted a strong start.

With both teams putting up two runs in the first inning, the game was tied 2-2.

Charles City added two runs in the second as the Mustangs added one to stand with the Comets up 4-3.

Indee spirits were lifted as the Mustangs then added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead 5-4.

A further two runs in the bottom of the fifth had Independence looking to secure the win before four unanswered runs in the top of the sixth for Charles City gave the Comets the lead.

Playing Thursday, the girls had a double header against Williamsburg’s Raiders.

The Raiders would take wins 12-0 and 15-0.

With the first game, the girls fell behind in the first inning as Williamsburg made three unanswered-runs, adding five unanswered-runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

Then in the second game, the Raiders went 2-0 each in the first two innings to stand 4-0 before putting up 11 unanswered-runs in the third for the win.

The girls will resume play Monday on the road against state-ranked Solon as the Mustangs stand 0-3.
