An outstanding season came to an end Friday for the Greenville Lady Comets softball team.

The GHS girls were edged, 5-4, by Olney Richland County in the championship game of the Vandalia Class 2A Regional.   

The Lady Comets fell behind 2-1 after two innings, and Olney was on top, 3-2 , going into the Greenville half of the sixth.  GHS came up with two runs to take a 4-3 margin into the seventh.

Olney posted two runs in the seventh and the Lady Comets were unable to score in the bottom of the inning.

Payton White had four hits in the game for the Lady Comets, one a double.  Zoee Englert smacked a home run.  Also getting hits were Haylee Clark, Kaitlyn Lurkins, and Ava Potthast doubled.

Clark, Lurkins and Englert drove in runs.  White scored twice, and Emma Bingham and Englert, once.

White pitched for the GHS squad.  She struck out four and allowed four earned runs.

The Lady Comets completed the season with a 25-7 record.
