The Greenville Comets baseball team won two of its last three games this week, and will now prepare for regional action.
They lost a close game at Clay City, 3-2, on Wednesday, then won on back-to-back days at home against Mt. Vernon and Newton.
It was a 5-3 decision over Mt. Vernon. Drake Graber had two hits, while Rowdy Sussenbach, Drake Curry, Dayton Oliver and Cannon Hamel also hit safely. Curry pitched a complete game for the victory. He struck out 10 batters.
Friday, the Comets blanked Newton 2-0, as Christian Swalley pitched a complete game. He allowed only one hit and struck out six.
Graber and Hamel posted hits, and RBIs were credited to Graber and Gage Glynn.
Clay City slipped past the Comets 3-2. Hamel had a three-hit game, and Oliver recorded two hits and an RBI. Sussenbach and Dominic Sanchez also had hits.
Sussenbach was on the mound four innings and struck out seven. Oliver and Swalley each threw one scoreless inning.
The Comets own a 22-9 record going into the regional next week. The play Breese Central at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at Father McGivney High School.
