Xjenza Malta is opening the door to the space sector once again, with a new initiative that could unlock more than €1.75 million in funding for Maltese organisations.
In collaboration with the European Space Agency, Xjenza Malta will host an upcoming ESA PECS Info Day to introduce the fourth call under the Plan for European Cooperating States programme. The scheme is aimed at helping local entities access European-level funding while positioning themselves within one of the world’s fastest-growing industries.
And this is not only for scientists or aerospace experts. Malta’s wider strategy recognises that the space economy stretches far beyond rockets and satellites, and also includes finance, insurance, legal services, AI, regulation, technology and corporate support systems that help the industry function.
That means the opportunity could be relevant for fintech companies, banks, insurers, legal firms, researchers, startups and innovation-driven businesses looking to grow into new sectors.
The fourth PECS call is expected to support a wide range of projects, from feasibility studies and concept validation to research, applied development and technology-focused innovation. In other words, organisations do not need to already be “space companies” to benefit.
Those attending the Info Day will be able to hear directly from ESA experts, receive practical guidance on how the funding works and better understand how their expertise could be turned into a viable proposal.
The bigger picture is clear: Malta is not treating space as a niche curiosity, but as a serious future economic sector.
If you work in tech, AI, finance, law, research or innovation, this might be the perfect time to start looking up.
