VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — It was smooth sailing Monday afternoon for Janice Powers, also known as the Gal-N-Town on social media. She was traveling on Interstate 64 eastbound with Christian music in ear and client on her calendar.
But in a moment, everything changed.
“While I was traveling down east 64, I saw a couple of cars trying to miss the object in the road,” Powers said. “She hit it with her front tire and then it hit her back tire.”
The Gal-N-Town was now in the line of fire of a flying object.
“It hit the pavement, and then I knew it was going to hit my car. I just didn’t know where at the time,” Powers said. “And it came through the dashboard or my windshield.”
For a few tense moments, the projectile was a UFO — “until I pulled over to see what it was and to check on the other person because she had the flat tire,” Powers said. “… And the police officer, state trooper showed up. He told me what it was, and that’s when I knew what it was. … It was a flatbed strap, down here where you tighten them.”
Two days later, glass was still inside Powers’ car.
“”Luckily, it only cracked across the middle of the windshield, but it came smashing in, so I had a great, big ole circle of it, and it luckily stuck into the windshield and stayed there. It didn’t come all the way through, so I’m just glad I didn’t have a passenger.”
Powers had a message for drivers.
“Just be aware of your surroundings [and] stay on the lookout for any object on the road because on the video that I posted, it looked smaller than what it actually is,” Powers said, “because it’s big when you’re looking at it in person versus watching a video.”
10 On Your Side reached out to Virginia State Police to find out whether any charges will be filed in this case. At this point, there’s no word on whether it has identified the truck.
