History

OLIVET, Mich. — The Albion baseball team gained some steam as the MIAA regular season starts to draw to a close.

The Britons got two wins over Olivet, 8-4 and 11-2, on the road in a doubleheader rescheduled from April 18.

They now sit in fifth in the MIAA standings, just one game out of a top four spot which would qualify them for the MIAA Tournament.

With the victories, the Britons are now up to 18 on the season which is their most since 2019. It also marks the most victories in a single season in head coach Matt Rix‘s career spanning his time with Kalamazoo (2007-12) and Albion (2025-present).

Game 1

In a seven-inning game, Albion plated four runs in the first. Gavin White singled to start the scoring, followed by a Stahl single. Max Holser notched an RBI groundout, while Logan DeVos hit a sacrifice fly to score another.

The Britons built their advantage to 6-0 in the third on two solo shots from Tyler Murphy and Holser.

Olivet got two runs in the home half of the frame on a double and single to close the gap to within four.

Jonjay Arreazola hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth, but the Comets gained some momentum in the sixth after scoring on an error and sacrifice fly to make it 7-4.

However, the Britons added an insurance run in the seventh on an error.

Four Albion players had multi-hit games, while Quinn Lewis started the first 5.1 innings and allowed seven hits, two walks and punched out three batters. Murphy threw the final 1.2 frames with two strikeouts and recorded a save.

Game 2

Albion struck first again in Game 2 with a pair of runs in the second. Schuster notched a single to score Drew Ribble, and Gavin White walked in a run.

The Comets did not score until the sixth off a single, but the Britons fended off the threat by notching runs on two errors to take a 4-1 lead.

Olivet scored on a groundout in the home half of the frame to close the gap to two, but Albion exploded with seven runs in the ninth.

Murphy got it going when he reached on an error that scored White. Holser then hit an RBI single, while Ribble cranked a two-run double. Schuster hit a two-run single, and Jack LaPorte scored on a wild pitch to round out the Albion scoring.

Brendan Schultz pitched seven strong innings on the mound, giving up just four hits and two walks while striking out five. Murphy earned his second save of the day with a rare two-inning save, as he came in when it was a two-run game.

White went 3-for-5 at the dish, while Albion notched 11 hits as a team — the exact same total they had in Game 1.
