The American company BlackSea Technologies has unveiled the Comet unmanned boat, armed with missiles for air defense and strikes on surface targets. The platform was shown at the Sea-Air-Space exhibition in the United States, Defence Blog reports.
Comet is a 13.1-meter-long unmanned boat capable of speeds in excess of 45 knots (≈83 km/h) and carrying up to 10,000 pounds (≈4.5 tons) of payload including fuel.

At the exhibition, the boat was demonstrated with a two-missile launcher, an electro-optical guidance system in the bow, as well as a navigation radar and additional sensors.
“Built in just one month, Comet is the latest evolution of a hull design with over two decades of operational history in the U.S. Navy,” the publication quotes BlackSea as saying in a statement.
The boat is equipped with two Volvo D6 engines and a Seakeeper stabilization system.
According to a BlackSea statement quoted by the publication, “named after a Baltimore privateer, Comet is built on a simple principle: move fast and carry more.”
The ship was demonstrated with air defense missiles capable of engaging aerial targets – including drones, helicopters and low-flying aircraft, anti-submarine warfare, mine clearance, electronic warfare and ship escort. The platform supports remote control and autonomous navigation.
The company is said to have presented it as one of the most heavily armed unmanned boats publicly demonstrated by American manufacturers.
Previously, the US showed off the Quickfish sea drone, which is capable of launching aircraft-type UAVs.
As Defense wrote, the Ukrainian military also uses similar military technologies. Last October, a separate coastal defense brigade used a Barracuda unmanned boat to deliver FPV drones for a surprise attack on an enemy boat.
