TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Marlies battled back to earn a 4–3 overtime victory over the Utica Comets on Wednesday, overcoming a multi-goal deficit with a strong third-period push and a composed finish in extra time. Utica controlled much of the early pace, capitalizing on their forecheck and converting on key chances to build a lead through the opening forty minutes. Toronto showed flashes of offensive pressure but struggled to break through consistently, with Comets goaltending and defensive structure limiting second opportunities.
The Marlies found another gear in the third period, increasing their tempo and establishing sustained zone time. Their forecheck began to create turnovers, leading to extended pressure and quality chances from the slot. Toronto’s top forwards and blue line activated effectively, with point shots and net-front traffic playing a key role in cutting into the deficit. Goaltender Dennis Hildeby remained steady throughout, making several key saves earlier in the game that proved crucial as momentum shifted.
Toronto ultimately forced overtime with a late equalizer, capitalizing on sustained offensive pressure and a breakdown in Utica’s defensive coverage. In the extra frame, the Marlies executed a clean transition play, using speed through the neutral zone to create space before finishing the game-winner on a controlled rush.
