With For All Mankind Season 5 now streaming on Apple TV and the show confirmed to end with Season 6, longtime viewers have been revisiting a persistent theory about where this alternate history saga might ultimately land. Given the show’s unique structure, where it jumps forward a decade with each new season, many fans have speculated that the series could eventually stretch far enough into the future to depict humanity’s first contact with aliens.

Don’t expect Aliens to be introduced in For All Mankind

During roundtable interviews at WonderCon 2026, For All Mankind co-showrunner Ben Nedivi directly addressed the ongoing aliens speculation. His response effectively closes the door on any alien theories fans might still be nursing. “We pride ourselves on a more realistic portrayal, so I think aliens is probably not in our wheelhouse,” Nedivi explained to The Direct.

The creative team remains committed to grounding the Apple TV drama in tangible scientific possibility rather than veering into alien encounters. While the show’s premise, which is an alternate timeline where the Soviet Union beat America to the lunar surface, certainly qualifies as speculative fiction, Nedivi emphasized that the writers prioritize plausibility over pure fantasy.

That said, Nedivi did acknowledge that For All Mankind’s story trajectory naturally pushes boundaries as it progresses. “I do think the further we go, the further we become science fiction,” he admitted. The series began in the 1960s with relatively modest technological divergences from our own history, but Season 5 finds humanity’s space capabilities advancing at a dramatically accelerated pace. “It’s been a fascinating evolution of the show from Season 1, where that kind of discussion comes up,” Nedivi noted.

Even as the technology depicted grows more ambitious, the guiding principle remains unchanged. “I think we’re trying to hold on to science fact more than science fiction, as much as possible,” he said, adding, “It’s getting harder, though.”

For fans hoping to see the For All Mankind crew shake hands with aliens before the series finale, Nedivi’s comments can be seen as a reality check.
