All is not well with Lufthansa and its relations with unions, with the UfO union calling its members out on strike on Friday, 10th.

The strike comes at the end of the school holidays, which impacts both Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline. The strike is set to begin at 00:01 on Friday, 10th April(2201 GMT on Thursday) and run until 22:00 on Friday.

Whilst the airline will attempt to operate as many flights as possible (either on its own or within the Lufthansa Group of airlines), there will certainly be delays and cancellations.

At this point, if you are impacted, Lufthansa should have proactively informed you by email by Thursday morning, 9th April 2026, about the current situation and your options.

It’s strongly recommended that you check the status of your flight on lufthansa.com, as well as ensure your contact details are up-to-date. If you booked through a travel agent, you should be contacting them urgently about your options.

Lufthansa currently expects to largely return to the regular flight schedule from Saturday, 11th April 2026 onwards.

Rerouting and Rebooking

Passengers holding tickets from Lufthansa, Austrian, SWISS, Brussels Airlines or Air Dolomiti, issued on or before 8th April 2026, and booked on Lufthansa-operated flights (including Lufthansa CityLine) on 10th April 2026, may:

Rebook free of charge to another Lufthansa Group flight between 8th and 17th April 2026 via the Lufthansa Help Centre, or
Request a refund for their ticket until 10th April 2026 via the Help & Contact Centre

With strike action, call centres will be swamped – thus, try the digital channels as your first method to address your change requirements.

In the event of a cancellation, Lufthansa will rebook you free of charge and usually automatically to another flight and inform you via your mobile phone number. If you do not receive a message from Lufthansa, please check the current status of your booking. Here, you can also adjust the rebooking if required.

Alternatively, you can also use the Lufthansa Chat Assistant.

Or switch to Deutsche Bahn

If your flight has been cancelled and no alternative flight is available, you can exchange your ticket for a Deutsche Bahn train ticket via the airline’s Good for Train service.

The Chaos will continue.

With the UfO union and Lufthansa stilll logerheads, over benefits and protections, as well as the plan to move everyone from Lufthansa Cityline to Lufthansa City Airlines as a play to reduce costs, neither side is seeing eye-to-eye at this time.

Until one side budges, or they want to sit down and talk frankly, expect further action along the line.

Because there’s nothing like a Lufthansa strike to foul up a journey.
