Hey, long time lurker first time poster. My name is Auden O. and I’ve been wondering about the Finincia Phenomenon.

Now I know what you’re thinking. “What the fuck is the Finincia Phenomenon?” Sorry for bringing advanced level African history into this but I think there’s a reason this is so niche. Buckle up, because this is gonna be a long post.

Why should I believe you?

Good question. My name is Auden O., and I hold a PhD in African Ontological Science from Northumbria University (as well as a bachelor’s in acting :)). I was on track to become an assistant professor at NU before I started raising questions about Finincia, when I was promptly ostracized from the historical community. I was going to just wallow in my misery until I watched Project Hail Mary in the theatre and I really related to the main character Ryan Gosling plays. Like him I was exiled from my field for unorthodox beliefs. So, here I am.

What is the Finincia Phenomenon?

The Finincia Phenomenon is an observed phenomena in African studies wherein countries that had experienced colonization during the first phase of colonization (1492-1800ish) have a recorded net crude oil SLUS depository score fifty times higher than those that experienced colonialism during the second colonial period (around 1800-1945). For obvious reasons, Ethiopia is not counted in this algorithm.

Okay, but why does it matter?

Think about it for a second. Those of you familiar with the SLUS scale understand that most nations hover around the 1.4-3.4 range, with massive oil nations lie Norway, Iran, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia have around 80-90. So a fifty times multiplier here is super meaningful. Of course, oil is the lifeblood of modern capitalism. But in the 15th-19th centuries, this was not the case. So is the Financia Phenomenon pure coincidence? That’s how it’s dealt with by mainstream historians. But the sample size (all of Africa???) is way to large for that to be true. So why is the Financia Phenomenon so often brushed under the rug? Its creator, Alfred Financia, doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page! I’m serious, look it up!

My working theory is that oil is not the scarce resource that fossil fuel companies claim it is. That’s why the CRX report on the Shell merger got buried by the feds. That’s why the BP shareholder report has entirely different numbers than the leaked board PowerPoint. It’s bec
