Arabic version: الشهود يطالبون بالإجابات حول رؤية الأجسام الطائرة المجهولة في ويستال عام 1966
Witnesses to Australia’s biggest UFO sighting at Westall High School are calling for answers 60 years after the incident. On April 6, 1966, numerous students and teachers observed a mysterious object in the sky, sparking intrigue and speculation that continues to this day. According to ABC News, many former students are now sharing their experiences as they seek clarity about the event.
Tania Vassie, then a 13-year-old student, vividly recalls seeing a “strange, rounded, two-storey disc” moving erratically above the school. Her excitement turned to panic as she ran to alert others, shouting about the “flying saucer.” Her account is one of many, with some witnesses claiming to have seen up to three objects that day, making it the biggest mass sighting of a UFO in Australian history.
Opinions on the sighting vary widely. Some, like Ken Stallard, a former student and retired school principal, believe it was a secret military craft, while others, including Richard Saunders from Australian Skeptics Inc, urge for a more cautious interpretation of the events. Saunders acknowledges that something was seen but emphasizes the need for a rational explanation rather than jumping to conclusions about extraterrestrial visitation.
The event has become shrouded in mystery, with many witnesses recalling men in uniform arriving shortly after the sighting to discourage discussion about what they had seen. On the 60th anniversary, witnesses are frustrated by the lack of official documentation and answers, with Vassie expressing a desire for transparency regarding the incident. “If it really was nothing of significance, well, let’s explain it. I think that’s all that everybody wants to know,” she stated.
As the anniversary prompts renewed interest, researchers continue to investigate the Westall incident, collecting accounts and seeking to piece together the truth behind what remains a compelling enigma in Australian history.
