Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Thursday, April 2, 2026, stressed the pivotal role of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) in supporting national objectives and promoting the use of space technology as a tool for planning, development and resource management.

Madbouli made the remarks on Thursday as he chaired the 11th board meeting of the EgSA at the Cabinet’s headquarters in the New Capital.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa, and the agency’s CEO Maged Ismail, alongside board members.

Ismail presented key files, including the upcoming launch of the SPNEX satellite, detailing its scientific objectives, partner institutions, and strategic benefits for domestic space technology and national capacity building.

He also discussed obtaining international quality certifications (EN 9001 – AS 9100:2016) in collaboration with a European body, which would standardize the agency’s design, production, and testing operations.

Ismail also reviewed the outcome of the Arab Space Cooperation Group meeting, the launch of an Arab youth hackathon on space applications, and the national space program strategy, which is designed to keep pace with technological developments and meet Egypt’s national security requirements.

The meeting also covered preparations for hosting the African Space Agency headquarters and the start of its operations in Egypt.

Discussions covered local and international memoranda of understanding with the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center, Minya Governorate, and the Russian and Indian space agencies, as well as progress on the technology zone within the space city, a key hub for domestic space industry development. The use of satellite monitoring systems to manage strategic resources and support agriculture, environment, climate change response, and crisis management was also highlighted.

The agency’s CEO reviewed research and development projects within international partnerships to strengthen Egypt’s capabilities in peaceful space applications and data analysis. Human capacity development was addressed through the Egyptian Space Academy, aimed at training and qualifying national talent for sector sustainability.

The agency’s board also examined the 2025–2026 year-end report and the draft 2026–2027 budget, in line with financial governance, efficiency, and alignment with national priorities.

At the end of the meeting, the premier underlined the need for ongoing institutional coordination and disciplined work to enhance Egypt’s regional and international standing in space science and technology.
