UPDATE: Multiple confirmations that it is indeed Jupiter and the issue is with the app not being right. Thank you so much.

Rookie question.

Context: Shot with a Canon 7d camera and 1,000mm telephoto, not a telescope.

Location: Queensland Australia. 01apr2026 about 1900hrs

So I'm just out for a walk and see what looks odd. I'm thinking 'planet'. I grab my camera and big lens. By no means as cool as many of the shot here but still I do okay.

I'm lining up the shot… Watching it drift in real time… the planets and what seem like moons all drifting together, so I still feel my assumption is right and I'll look up later which planet it is since i know a couple are visible tonight.

According to "Starwalk2" app on my iPhone I shot just above Taurus… No planets as I was originally thinking. So what did I shoot? H-2A r/B(2) ? and what is that?

  1. Definitely Jupiter and it’s big Moons. Very clearly.

What ever your using either it or your conclusion is wrong.

Also there is no way you noticed it drift in real time. I agree it moves with the sky over the evening and there is a movement but it’s very small on any night. Far to small to notice.
