I heard all that dust goes across the Atlantic towards the Amazon and some interesting things happen when it does? Is that true?

This nutrient rich dust makes the world go round! I love the interconnected features of our ecosystem from the global to the local, macro to micro. It’s systems all the way down!

The Canary Islands are always getting dusty weather because of this I think.

We got a Saharan dust cloud last year here in Florida. For a couple days The temps were a bit cooler and the sunsets were absolutely astounding.

We get a dusting in the UK every now again, sometimes seems like quite a lot.

I used to live on the little island you see to the lower left. Locally these sand storms are called calimas and it can go from 25° to 40°, the air is horrible and corrosive to breath and lasts days. It’s horrible but it’s also nice to know this nutrition rich dust travels all the way across the Atlantic and helps to fertilize the Amazon.

I like it as a Floridian because it stifles hurricane development.

You can see the Atlas Mountains stopping the spread North, and once it passes the range, it then begins crossing into the Atlantic.
