This has always been a question that I’ve been curious about and I’m excited to hear what you guys say.

  1. It’s like there’s better options that don’t put out as much UV and have longer lifespans, If I was going to the trouble of moving a planet I’d pick something that lasts more in a couple million years.

My understanding about o-type stars is they burn hot and quick which doesn’t seem ideal to build my playground nearby.

  2. IsChristianAwake on

O-Type Stars have extremely short lifespans for any potential planets to form or to stay habitable.

This hypothetical advanced civilization would have better chances of placing a terrestrial planet around a G-Type or K-Type (Orange Dwarf) Star instead due to their longer lifespans. 🤷🏾‍♂️

  3. Within the confines of your question, sure. You’ve left it open ended enough that any response of, “no, because of ___” can be refuted with, oh they figured that part out.

  4. Placing a whole planet anywhere where it didn’t exist before is solidly in the realm of science fiction.

But if there is a planet in such a star’s habitable zone, sure, it should be possible to terraform it. The biggest hurdles for life on planets around O-type stars is that these stars do not live very long, so advanced life has limited time to evolve naturally, and due to the stars being very hot, a lot of its spectrum output will be in the UV, which damages DNA. So you would want a pretty thick atmosphere with a good ozone layer to protect the planet surface.

  5. I’m fascinated by the concept of a ringworld like in the novel by the same name or Halo.

  6. That’s a bad bet, really. Time for them to put that planet in place the star would explode in a supernova.

  7. why would you want to if youve the technology and power supply that would be needed to move a whole planet to where you wanted it youd have the ability to create your own space habitat.

the only advantage a planet in a habitable zone gives you is free energy but technologically level your talking about implies they would be past needing that.
