LOS ANGELES, CA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up Game No. 2 of the 2026 regular season, it was Opening Day for their Triple-A affiliate, the Oklahoma City Comets.
Shortly after the Dodgers Opening Day win, the OKC Comets announced their preliminary roster for the upcoming minor league season, and while it included big names such as Hyeseong Kim and PCL MVP Ryan Ward, one name that was notably absent was right-handed pitcher River Ryan.
Ryan, 27, was optioned to Triple-A by the Dodgers during the final week of Spring Training despite putting up impressive numbers during Cactus League action.
Their reasoning, per Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, was to allow Ryan to continue building up his arm after the right-hander missed the entire 2025 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The team also optioned Kyle Hurt to Triple-A with Ryan for the same reason.
However, Ryan was not on the Comets’ posted roster, and that’s because the right-hander will stay in Arizona for extended spring training before joining them in April, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
The plan for Ryan is to throw for one more weekend at Arizona before rejoining the Comets the following week.
However, Ryan’s timeline to return to the Major League club is more complicated, but a May or June return seems the most likely.
In his brief MLB tenure with the Dodgers in 2024, Ryan held a 1.33 ERA across four games and had a 1.86 ERA across 9.2 Cactus League innings this season.
OKC Roster Announced
After an Opening Day win over the Arizona Diamondbacks to start the 2026 regular season, the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, the OKC Comets, announced their full roster for the 2026 season.
Of the 43 players currently counted on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster—including the three placed on the 60-day IL—10 are on the injured list, and 26 are active on the Major League roster. The remaining seven 40-man players are with the Comets.
