A Middleburg Heights carpenter says a dream told him exactly where to look for one of the biggest Medina County asteroid fragments found yet.
MEDINA, Ohio — Jeff Makkos of Middleburg Heights was working nearby when a meteor exploded over Medina County on St. Patrick’s Day.
“I heard it and felt it,” Makkos recalled.
This self-employed construction guy searched each day Wednesday through Sunday, finding only a small meteorite. But then, everything changed.
“I had a dream that Monday night that I would find another piece, and it told me right where to go.”
He had already gotten permission from the property owner on Saturday to search.
“So I went back on Tuesday and found it immediately,” he said. “I knew where to go from the dream. I literally walked 150 yards from my truck, looked down, and there was the crater.”
What he found was one of the biggest meteorites so far: a whopping baseball-sized rock weighing 308 grams!

So what will he do with the big meteorite?
“I would love to see it go to an Ohio museum!”
