BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) — An unidentified flying object that passed over the Mississippi Gulf Coast Friday has been identified.

WLOX received several calls and reports of a strange object flying over Harrison County.

WLOX reached out to Harrison County EMA, Keesler Air Force Base and the Gulfport Biloxi International Airport and tracked the object on FlightAware.

FlightAware showed the object was a high-altitude balloon registered in New Mexico that took off from Roswell.

An airport spokesperson confirmed the information.

Based on FlightAware and the FAA registry, the aircraft is registered to Sceye Inc., a company in Moriarty, New Mexico, that specializes in high-altitude aircraft for telecommunications and climate monitoring.
