Göbekli Tepe is located in the vicinity of Şanlıurfa (a.k.a. Urfa, a.k.a. Edessa) Turkey.
Based on the available info, the settlement was inhabited from around 9500 BCE to at least 8000 BCE. This is the site that significantly revised the human history timeline.
The pics are taken on 10/21/2025 and should give you IMHO a good enough understanding what the site looks like now and what can you see if you get there. One hint – if you want to see the the details on the pillars, bring some optics with you, cause you won't be able to get up close.

The Google Street View coverage is pretty good if people want to virtually explore the site.

Lee Clare, the field director, has said on Twitter excavations should resume in July. There was a new geophysical survey done last year^1 that results from will hopefully be released as well.

A place that must be studied in detail to reveal its secrets!
Looking at the photos, it appears the t-shaped structures would have been used as support for some type of roof. The reliefs must have been pretty spooky in the dark under small fire-light.
The Istanbul airport museum (which overall definitely was not worth the entry fee btw) had a cool diorama when I was there last year, depicting an artist’s impression of the site under construction.

I love Gobekli and it’s an amazing site. But I’m kinda disappointed how it’s become so well known. Not in a hipster sense but it takes up so much attention the increasing number of Tas Tepeler sites and some possibly related sites like Boncuklu Tarla. Boncuklu is even older than Gobekli.
