Rebellion, the UK studio best known for its Sniper Elite series, has revealed Alien Deathstorm, a sci-fi action horror game set to release in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC – and day one into Xbox Game Pass.
Alien Deathstorm casts you as a Combat Engineer that has been dispatched to a remote off-world colony after a loss of communications. Arriving well ahead of a full rescue fleet, you job is to figure out what happened and try to save lives… but it very quickly becomes clear that the conditions on the planet have become nigh on impossible to survival, and then there’s the hostile alien monsters to worry about as well.
It looks pretty tasty from the reveal trailer, the man made facilities being ravaged by horrendously high winds and in a state of ruin, while the horror elements emerge from being hunted by alien creatures that seem to blend a little bit of Aliens and Predator in their design. There’s no hiding away from not showing them in order to raise suspense here, so take that for an indication of the action tone to the horror.
Alien Deathstorm is another sign of Rebellion trying to diversify their gaming portfolio. Sniper Elite has always been there for the studio, and the Zombie Army spin-off series has its schlocky horror appeal, but there was a period where it wasn’t quite certain how they could really branch out from that – Strange Brigade sadly wasn’t quite it. Thankfully last year’s Atomfall was a surprise hit, and Alien Deathstorm has the feel of something that could be similarly popular.
