I took these two photos tonight in Michigan. The moon has been looking weird to me. The Cheshire moon is something I’ve never heard of before and over the last week I’ve bee paying close attention. Shouldn’t it only look like this on the southern hemisphere?!!?
Yes the photos are upright. I checked like 50 times. I’ve read as much as a person can read on the subject. I am so so so confused. I appreciate any insight or feedback!!

Those photos are taken from the upside-down continent (Australia)
The side of the moon at the ‘top’ when it rises will be at the ‘bottom’ 12 hours later when it sets
To me it only looks rotated about 45-60 degrees. There’s a circular dark blob near the edge at about 4:00 in your photos, which is at about 2:30 in the google images (actually it varies there, too).
Won’t the apparent rotation of the moon change throughout the night? For example, imagine you’re on the equator and it’s a full moon and you see it rise in the east. Take a “right side up” photo there, and then 12 hours later when it’s setting in the west, another “right side up” photo — it’ll be upside down compared to the first one, right?
So in the northern hemisphere it won’t totally flip 180 like on the equator, but a photo of the moon taken at 10pm vs. 4am (with the camera level to the horizon) should be expected to look different, I would think…
No, looks perfectly fine for the northern hemisphere! The maria Tranquillitatis, Fecunditatis and Crisium are all in the northern part of the Moon.

Ton of conspiracy theories on other platforms right now about the moon doing “things” and meteors and all sorts of stuff. Heard from a coworker last week about it and how it relates to flat earth beliefs. Mass paranoia and misinformation coupled with social media and profit engagement along with failure of the educational system is destroying us.
