March has been a month for fireball meteors around the US and the world. But why?
CLEVELAND — It certainly has been a METEORIC March!
If you are keeping score, here are the big daytime fireball meteors chronicled across over the last 3 weeks:
2) Pennsylvania/Maryland – March 8
4) Medina County, Ohio – March 17
5) Houston, Texas – March 21
These do not include the bright nighttime meteors viewed in Pickerington, Ohio on March 14 and in California, Oregon and Michigan during the last three days. Monday night’s meteor was spotted over a half-dozen states, including Ohio.
So why is this happening?
Local astronomer Jay Reynolds calls it very “unusual.”
“We are not passing through any known meteor shower stream or any known asteroid debris field,” he told us.
Some scientists theorize these fireballs may have been left behind by Comet 31Atlas which flew thru our solar system in late 2025 and is set to emerge from behind the sun in April. But we will never know for sure…
