Steven Spielberg is one of Hollywood’s greatest directors and a science fiction enthusiast. So much so that his filmography has touched on the extraterrestrial theme on several occasions, whether from the most fantastical perspective in ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,’ the most apocalyptic in ‘War of the Worlds,’ or the most serious and dramatic in the iconic ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind.’ He even went so far as to include aliens in the much-criticized ending of ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.’ However, the celebrated filmmaker is about to release a new film with a similar theme, ‘Disclosure Day,’ starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, in which humanity, in the near future, is on the verge of discovering the truth about alien life. Although, apparently, Spielberg has his own opinion on a subject as fascinating as it is controversial: “I have a very strong suspicion that we are not alone here on Earth.”
Spielberg speaks candidly about aliens
He was just that candid at the recent “Steven Spielberg’s Grand Vision” conference held a few days ago as part of the SXSW Film and Television Festival in Austin, Texas, where the filmmaker spoke openly about the actual existence of extraterrestrials: “I don’t know any more than any of you do, but I have a very strong suspicion that we are not alone here on Earth right now. I made a movie about that,” the director admitted.
Let’s recall that former President Barack Obama admitted not long ago that he believed in extraterrestrial life, a topic Spielberg addressed in his remarks: “No one should really think that we are the only intelligent civilization in the entire universe,” adding that “statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.” Regarding Obama, he added: “He stepped back to say what he believed was life in the cosmos, which, of course, everybody should believe in.”
“The big question is, are we alone now? And have we been alone over the last 80 years? Have we been alone over the last few thousand years?” the famous filmmaker continues to ask himself, adding that ever since he was very young, he has believed that “we are not alone.” In light of all this, Spielberg concludes that he is not afraid of potential aliens:

“I made a movie called ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind.’ I haven’t even had a close encounter of the first or second kind! Why haven’t I seen anything? Half of my friends have seen UFOs or UAPs. Where’s the justice of that, if you’re listening out there?” he wonders.

“If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to 7 billion people,” reads the film’s brief official synopsis. Steven Spielberg’s new film, ‘Disclosure Day,’ opens in theaters on June 12.
