A search for missing retired Air Force Gen. William Neil McCasland has been hindered by an unseasonably warm spring in New Mexico, according to authorities.

The vastness of the search area, as well as the warm temperatures in Albuquerque, have complicated thermal drone search efforts in the investigation into McCasland’s disappearance, the sheriff’s office said in a press conference on Monday.

“Unfortunately, we are having one of the warmest springs we’ve had in years, and the imagery coming off of the flare, the mountain was just lit up like a candle even at night,” Lt. Kyle Woods told reporters Monday.

  1. I’m convinced this guy was killed for finding out more than he should have. We’ll never get answers.

This seems like a non story. It’s like saying night vision is hindered during the day. If he is dead, the heat sensor will not help anyway. Sure, it’s one tool they cannot use at this time of day, but there are other efforts to search (hopefully).

  3. I live across from this guy and I know someone that works at the labs and has a top secret that went out the wright p for work. I asked them how the reverse engineering went out there and they looked away from me with a smirk.

It seems like had rescue dogs been used to track his scent as soon as they knew he was missing, this wouldn’t have been a problem. He’s been missing for 19 days, and that might be too long for dogs to track his scent (searches return “several weeks” in some environments). Maybe worth a shot, though, since I doubt there’s been much rain.

It’s hard to separate incompetence from intentional foot-dragging due to knowing that the search is pointless, for whatever reason.

  5. The excuses and explanations for this case are almost comedical if someone hadn’t been clearly offed for knowing or saying too much about the wrong things.

  6. Well if it’s hot…and he’s dead…they would find his body cold…

Perhaps they were hoping he was alive but not anymore is what they’re saying
